Music is something that much of our team's generation finds important on a very personal level. In the midst of a number of women's activist movements, like those surrounding child marriage, sexual and domestic violence, and workplace discrimination, our group wanted to take a look at movement that is intersection this women's activism with something we are passionate about, like music. Female representation in the music industry is something we feel is not talked about as much as other parts of media, due to music being much about preferences making it difficult to tack down the sources of the problem.

When looking at our gallery, we encourage those reading to think critically about the fact that our research is rooted in the gender binary. Our analysis of the gallery we have put together touches on this, but it's important to think about the fact that encouraging female representation in music is not meant to exclude other groups, like those that identify as non-binary. Additionally, it is important to know that intersectionality is important to our team. The analysis of our gallery includes some thoughts on this, so we encourage everyone to be thinking about this when looking at the information we've put together.

Overall, our team mainly focuses on the idea that gender is a social construct, and the gender binary is a western social construct. Much of the movement we are looking at is rooted in this, and this is an important idea to remember as we analyze the movement and as you draw your own conclusions about the movement.
